A special welcome to everyone joining us in worship at Kingston today.

Luke 18:1-8

As good as it would be, God is not our yes man, or woman. We often pray very prescriptively as though God needs to be told how things are, should be and need to be. Yet Jesus exhorts us to always pray and “to not lose heart”. He then tells the story of a judge who was badgered by a widow. Now we get the impression that the judge holds no particular empathy to the widow’s plight and Jesus, as usual, is highlighting the imbalance of power in this scenario. Yet, nevertheless, it is the widow who prevails through her sheer grit, determination and persistence.

Jesus then compares the mercy of the indifferent judge against a God who is already for you!

What then is the reward for her persistence?
Is it wealth?
Is it the elevation of status?
Is it influence?

No.
It is justice.
When it comes to justice, even if you don’t feel that anyone is listening, you certainly have God’s ear.
