A special welcome to everyone joining us in worship at Kingston today.
Matthew 9:35–10:8
When I was about 19, I left the Uniting Church for a season and took up membership in a fledgling AOG church plant at the bottom of my street. It was growing with new converts to Jesus in part because of this amazing lady called June. I can’t remember why June started to come to that church and it may well be that I never knew, but she lived in a tough part of town. Through the ministry of that little congregation, she found Jesus and started a new way of life which she wondered how she had ever lived differently. She was ripe for the picking… And so were her neighbors and their neighbors and soon we had a ministry with a bunch of people from struggle street in her home. It was dynamic and life changing.
Do we see the opportunities Christ has for us?
Do we even dare ask?
All June did was be June with Jesus. She was just honest about this Jesus guy she met who happened to be God, and people could see Christ’s light in her!
So, Jesus sends out the laborers to gather the harvest and says, don’t take anything but the authority He gives them. No post graduate studies in divinity, no certificate of accreditation from the Presbytery, they’re just the sent with the one who sent them.
She has always been a bit of a hero of mine, that June lady.
