A special welcome to everyone joining us in worship at Kingston today.

Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43; Psalm 139:1-12, 23-24

So you are good seed then! I think everyone starts out that way. Sure, some people don’t continue growing like that!

In fact, it feels as though some people are the absolute bane of our lives, like they are literally weeds amongst us! They share the same water, the same soil, the same nutrients but they have a seemingly pointless existence except to make more seeds for weeds and proliferate good soil with their toxic nuisance!

Shall we pull them out? Up root them? Poison them? A reasonable idea but could that harm the good crop that is there also? This is not a parable of inclusion and exclusion as many choose to read it. It is not about who is in and who is out. It is an exhortation to flourish where you are planted.

The weeds are here to stay… at least until harvest. That does not mean you have to become one of them.
