Notices 29th March 2026
A special welcome to everyone joining us in worship at Kingston today.
Matthew 21:1-11
Who is this man…?
Is it that long ago that we beheld the baby Jesus? The story of Jesus really makes compelling reading if you pretend that you are unfamiliar with it. It is full of contrast and controversy. You go from the giddy heights of celestial annunciation to a balling baby in a feed trough. From here, Christ’s life goes from obscurity to fame, from refugee to cult hero. And today, these recurrent paradoxes climax as we remember the euphoric and jubilant chanting of an adoring crowd as the Jesus circus rolls into town before the religious leaders of the day plot, quite successfully as it turns out, to execute our hero.
It all makes me ponder the fickleness of people. How it seems that a person can one day be celebrated as a nation’s darling only to be sentenced to death by media as the object of tomorrow’s shocking scandal. Would I have been more immune to the propaganda spun from the self-protecting religious gurus of the day?
“Could it be me Lord?”
“Everyone else may turn away but I never will.”
And yet my Lord still says “Forgive them Father for they know not what they do.” from a cross I kind of put him on.
Oh Yeah, just like them, I err…
…but I always find myself coming back.
