2Kings 2:1-17; Luke 9:51-62
“Tell me what I can do for you before I am taken from you."
Have you ever wondered how you would have responded to that request from the most powerful man of God that ever walked the earth aside from our Lord Jesus? What could he do for me? It is like the “Genie 3 wishes” thing. Elisha plays the clever wish of; “wishing for more wishes” card. Yet Elisha is asking no small thing. He is asking for a double portion of calamity as well as a double portion of power. These were dark times. Times which would make the hit series of “Game of thrones” not seem that far-fetched.
Everything comes at a cost and it is the very cost of things that dictate the rhetoric of every political campaign where we, the voters, are left to decipher the truth between the lines of appealing yet impossible promises.
So I vote for Jesus! He stands for the meek, the poor in spirit, the mourners, the peace makers, the people who hunger for justice and righteousness. He promises persecution, enemies you are just going to have to love, and even martyrdom!
Well at least he’s honest…
