A special welcome to everyone joining us in worship at Kingston today.

Luke 12:49-56

The fundamental difference between Jesus and me is that when it comes to conflict, I run!.. I run for my life!!!

I hate the thought of someone feeling ill toward me. I like being thought of fondly. I am a chicken like that. The thing is, Jesus’ preaching is polemical and its hard line on justice, mercy and love for people whom the rest of the world would shun, constantly puts us in the firing line. Particularly in an increasingly secularized society that tells us religion has no place in politics! Should we be surprised by this revelation that following Jesus can cause such dissonance in families? Our beliefs have a direct impact upon our behavior. They are also a filter through which we evaluate and critique the actions of our fellow humans. More than that, we hold Jesus’ teachings dear to our hearts. They are intertwined deep within our perception of ourselves and guide our thoughts and actions. We should be passionate about them. We should, however, always be prepared that others will be just as passionate about theirs.

Once again Jesus is right.

On matters deeply and sacredly entrenched in our hearts, conflict is inevitable.
